This is when a lot of dog behaviour problems can come about in adolescence as the world has just opened up due to the hormonal changes within the dogs body, it is having growth spurts and wondering what is going on, combined with being in another fear period too.

Now some owners may be looking at this and thinking, “I didn’t realise my dog had all this going on“. Some might realise but then not understand that it is having another fear period.

Fear periods are a time when a dog can become sensitive and more aware of what is going on around them and sometimes can make them worse in behaviour as they are struggling to cope. Which goes back to things it may of missed out on in its puppy education.

So, imagine that combined with the hormonal changes and the world becoming a great place to be, listening to the owners can sometimes stop, and a loss of control can come.

It is key to get your dog back on the right path at this time so it doesn’t continue any unwanted behaviours into adulthood.

Some adolescent behaviours can be jumping at people inside or outside the home. Hyper within the home.

Problems like lack of recall when being called can creep in. A dog can start to become boisterous around other dogs. Lack of manners can happen in certain situations.

Lack of obedience may also start to creep in and doesn’t listen to the owner anymore. These are just a few problems as there are many more.

The good thing about adolescent behaviour from a dog is that it can be changed with simple methods as the unwanted behaviours are normally down to small problems that have escalated into bigger problems.
